Two Harbors Camping Trip

Who? – You! J

When?  June 30-July 3, 2006

Cost?  Very reasonable…check back May 1st.  I’m still finalizing logistics.

Where?  The backside of Catalina Island

How?  We will be taking the Catalina Express out of San Pedro, on Saturday morning, over to Two Harbors.  The trip is about an hour and a half.  After we arrive, we’ll store our dive gear and either walk or get a lift to our campsites.  We will be staying in tent-like-cabins, which should be fun!  We will then beach dive the cove for the next three days!!!

What are we going to do?  We will dive, dive, and then dive some more!  We may also have a cocktail or two?  Go hiking?  And, of course, Kayaking!!  Anyone have a guitar or harmonica for the campfire?

Logistics:  We will be able to get air and other necessities.  There is a grocery store and most camp supplies including stoves, lanterns and firewood are sold.  One item I would definitely bring is your own sleeping bag – a warm one…oh, and all your dive gear…and a sense of adventure!!!

What else?  There will be more details to come as I work out the logistics.  Dates may change – extend…though, of course, you are welcome to stay as short or long as you like.  I will post an itinerary several weeks before the trip as well as a packing list and a list of additional expenses to be incurred by you.

Labor Day in Monterey!

When?  September 1-4th, 2006

Cost?  Very Reasonable – Check back May 1st

Where?  Monterey – Northern California Coast

How?  We will caravan up very early Friday morning.  We will check into our hotel, have lunch if people are hungry and then head to one of the main dive sites in Monterey for 2 afternoon dives! Dinner will be (to be announced), at 8:00.  Saturday, we will be on one of the cool dive boats off of Monterey main beach. The morning or afternoon will be free for those who would like to beach dive or visit the aquarium.  This is a good night for a night dive, conditions permitting.  The Metridium Fields are a must see – breath taking!  Have dinner where you like, with friends.  Sunday, we will dive the Point Lobos Marine Preserve.  This, you will not want to miss – all I can say is Wow!  Night dives and Sunday dives are up to you and your friends and how much sleep you need. J  Check out is around 11:00 on Monday…

What are we going to do?  Dive a lot!  I will be offering all specialty courses.  Simply let me know what you are interested in and I’ll arrange it.  We’ll also be fun diving…and socializing.

Logistics:  We’ll be staying at the Lone Tree Inn.  Accommodation, some meals, diving the preserve, and fun diving are included.  Other expenses include air fills, food, gas, and specialty courses.

What else?  Please look for revisions to the itinerary, a list of what to bring and an official schedule.  If you are interested in Specialties, let me know ahead of time and I will be sure you get the book in time to study!

Weekend in Catalina!

How?  We will be taking the Catalina Express out of Downtown Long Beach on the 7:00pm boat Friday evening and returning Sunday afternoon on the 3:45 boat.

What are we going to do?  Swim through forests of kelp, be accosted by nesting garibaldi, visit Oscar, and dive some sunken watercraft…possibly the Valiant!

What else?  See the checklist of what to bring on your adventure!

Catalina Day Trip

Who?  Open Water & Advanced Student; MSD & Divemaster Candidates, fun divers

When?  See Calendar

Cost?  $150 per diver; $75 per non-diver

(This includes round-trip boat fare, baggage transport and storage, tank and weight rental, air fills, and instruction.)

Where?  Avalon, Catalina @ Casino Point Underwater Park

How?  We will be taking the Catalina Express out of the Downtown Long Beach Landing.  We will leave on the 6:15 boat and return in the early evening.  I suggest not making plans for the evening as we get home late and you will be tired.

What are we going to do?  Learn to dive!

Logistics:  Please arrive at the Catalina Express at least 30 minutes prior to our scheduled departure time.   Upon arrival, we will give our gear to Catalina Baggage for transport.  We will then walk over to Casino Point and set up our gear.  After our gear is set up, we will have our dive briefings and jump in the water!  First thin between dives, if you have less than 1500 PSI, exchange your tank for another at the air fill station.  We usually finish up early afternoon in time for debriefing, log book signing and lunch.

What else?  See the checklist of what to bring on your adventure.  Open water students will want to bring plenty of snacks and water as there will not be time to sit down for a meal until after our dives are completed. If you need dive gear, rent it at Sea Stallion or elsewhere the night before.

Be sure to set up and test all your gear and try on your wetsuit and BCD before leaving the store.  Most anything you forget can be rented in Catalina.  However, it makes for a much more enjoyable day if everyone comes prepared. J
